THE HIDDEN SECRETS OF MARGAUX

Slender and bright. Château Rauzan-Ségla is inextricably linked to the estuary landscape. Within its walls, it is a cosy cocoon, brimming with history, fabrics, tapestries and noble materials. Outside, the rows of vines seem to stretch out time with a haunting gentleness. These Médoc terraces hide an exceptional terroir, a well-kept secret.

OUR SOILS

COUNTLESS LAYERS OF GRAVEL AND CLAY

On the left bank of the Gironde, the Médoc is made up of millennia-old terraces in strata. The Margaux region encapsulate entire lives: marine, lagoon, lakeside and delta formations. Each terrace reveals its hidden treasures. Countless layers of gravel and clay with delicate nuances. The soils change with the languorous topography. Complex, diverse nature.

LIMESTONE-CLAY SOILS

Unusual. The soils of this cool, clay-rich terroir over a limestone bedrock are different to the rest of the vineyards. They produce intense wines with a particular character. Pairing volume with presence.

DEEP GRAVEL SOILS

Historic. The Terrace 4 site offers exceptional Rauzan soils. The alternation between gravel and clay enables ideal water regulation. This terroir exudes complexity, depth and intensity.

FINE GRAVEL SOILS

Fruity. The estate’s satellite soils dance on the palate. These versatile plots create a terroir that encourages fruit and gourmet style.

The Médoc terraces provide grape varieties with multicoloured futures.

OUR GRAPE VARIETIES

A COLOURFUL MOSAIC OF GRAPE VARIETIES

At Rauzan-Ségla, selecting grape varieties is a real encounter – between the soil and its potential. The Médoc terraces provide grape varieties with multicoloured futures. Cabernet Sauvignon has established a kingdom in the gravel soils, which offer warmth and drainage on their bed of pebbles. This late-ripening grape variety takes the time it needs to create complexity and depth. Merlot reveals its different sides in the deep, fine gravel closer to the estuary. Delicacy. Radiance and fruit. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc bring complexity to the dance with their hints of colour.
